Young Bergen design duo Morten & Jonas have been working together since graduating from Bergen Academy in 2011. Marked by curiosity, imagination and humour, the products, spaces and environments they create have earned them several awards and exhibition appearances worldwide – remarkable considering their first product (the Bake Me a Cake table lamp created in collaboration with Bergen prison, Bjørgvin prison and Northern Lighting) was only launched in winter 2013. They are continuing their work with correctional services in western Norway, collaborating with inmates and staff at prisons in Bergen, Bjørgvin and Vik on new design projects, and a number of new products are due for launch in 2014/15.
Typically playful, Morten & Jonas’ modular tables are comprised of solid ash blocks on three coated steel legs, and are designed to be combined to create tabletops of potentially any length.
“The lamp that welcomes you with a friendly nod”, this jauntily anthropomorphic standing light makes use of LED technology to offer clear, consistent illumination from the head right down to the ground. The black aluminium frame contrasts with a white plexiglass panel that covers the LEDS and runs up the stem from the base.
A cheekily timely invention, Selfie is a combined, wall-mounted lamp and mirror available in two different sizes, that reflects or illuminates as the viewer’s narcissicism demands. It’s a clever blend of ingenious functionality and irreverence.
Oy is a series of stools with different heights, sizes and materials. Like stones laying in the waterfront they are creating a playful landscape of soft and round shapes made out of solid pine, steel and wool fabric.
The prototype shown in London is a collaboration with textile designer Kiyoshi Yatamoto.
