With craftsmanship knowledge from generations of quarrying, Lundhs AS was founded by Thor Lundh in 1962. The company, owned by the Lundh and Treschow family, is Norway’s leading exporter of natural stone, and renowned for Larvikite, the unique-to-Norway granite variety, found around the city of Larvik and used in landmark interiors and exteriors worldwide.
300 million years ago, the unique Larvikite was formed deep in the Earth’s crust through the cooling and solidification of magma. The stone’s inherent qualities are extreme durability, ultra-high density and a beautiful mix of feldspar crystals with a unique blue sheen.
The true value of a natural raw material is only revealed once it is crafted into an object that is both desirable and functional. Natural stone has been utilised for thousands of years – its beauty, versatility and durability make it one of the perfect materials for modern design. Lundhs are proud to support Norwegian designers who develop new and interesting objects and introduce a new perspective on the use of Norwegian stone. At 100% Norway, for example, Larvikite is used as a surface material in Sverre Uhnger and Thomas Jenkins’ table ‘As Long As You Like’.
