Born and raised in Hanover, Philipp has been designing and manufacturing furniture for the last 10 years, working on projects in Copenhagen, São Paolo and Berlin. Having recently graduated from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design with a degree in furniture and spacial design; his time spent immersed in Norwegian life and culture has inspired his work, both in terms of materials he uses and the way the natural landscape informs his designs. Philipp’s furniture pieces are generally sculptural in appearance, and he frequently introduces ingenious conceptual twists that enhances their function; last year he exhibited Trialog – a three-legged chair designed for reverse sitting – and Spire – a seed-shaped table with built-in herb planter.
A simple and unique idea, thrillingly executed, Signa Ligna is a set of small letters and numbers that can be used to punch messages, initials or dates into a variety of different surfaces. The tool provides a means of leaving traces of ourselves on an object, making ourselves part of its story.
