Both graduates of the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Christine Petersen and Anne Frøydis Linnerud founded Studio 17 in autumn 2013. Both have extensive experience working with various architectural practices in Oslo, as well as running their own.
As mothers, Christine and Anne realised that there was a lack of high-quality playhouse products on the market and created the X-hus to fill that gap, creating versatile spaces for constructive and creative play. Built of 6mm birch veneer plywood panels, held in place only with wedges, the playhouse is lightweight (about 20kg) and easy to assemble – without tools or screws – allowing children to participate in the construction of their own house. The design is neutral and unadorned to encourage the free play of kids’ imaginations. There are currently two houses available, the X-hus and smaller XS-hus, and the walls are designed to be easily interconnected to form larger structures and courtyards. Studio 17 plan to expand the series to include lighting and furniture items, too.
