Computer scientists started designing simple video games in the 1950s and 1960s. Space War was one of the first video display games. It was developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) student hobbyists in 1962. The first video game Hardware was released in 1970. Magnavox Odyssey was the first home video game. Video games are electronic games that provide visual interaction on a video display device. They are played on many platforms and devices like computers and mobile phones. Games evolved from text-based adventures to 3D open worlds.

Early History of video games

Computer scientists used electronic machines to construct relatively simple game systems in the early 1950s. These systems used electronic light displays. Bertie the Brain and Tennis for Two are early demonstration systems.  Tennis for Two is the first t electronic game to display. It was developed by  William Higinbotham in 1958.  Spacewar is also one of the earliest digital computer games. It was developed by MIT students in 1961. The electro-mechanical arcade game Periscope was launched by Sega in 1966. Many games were created in 1961.
